Lesson Activity:
Before Columbus: Trading States, Role of Europe, Role of Ottoman, and Persian Empires
- Students will use their textbooks to make a chart that includes the following information: Who was involved in trade, and what roles did each country, state, or empire involved play in trade at that time? Give explanations for who went where and the impact that these journeys had on the establishment of trade and colonies.
Causes of Exploration: Economic, Political, Social, and Technology
- Using their textbooks, students will answer the following questions:
- What motivated Europeans to explore? What allowed them to explore?
Empire Building/Life in the Colonies: Spanish, Portuguese, French, and English
- Students will examine a map (p 194, Sherman vol 1) showing the areas explored and countries involved
- Give explanations for who went where and the impact that these journeys had on the establishment of trade and colonies.
